Artomat JAX

Kismet Art Studios is proud to be an Art-o-Mat machine host! Our charming fuchsia machine with an etched mirror is a 1950s era cigarette machine that has been repurposed to vend art. It has seven columns; each column holds 20 art blocks or boxes with art. The art is specially curated for Jacksonville, featuring drawings, paintings, sculptures, textiles, prints, jewelry, art dolls, and more! In Florida, there are Art-o-Mat machines in Key West, Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Orlando—and now we finally have a machine in NE Florida! Most of the Art-o-Mat machines are in permanent locations across the U.S. You’ll find them in the Smithsonian museums in Washington D.C., the Cosmopolitan hotel and casino in Las Vegas, along with numerous other locations in museums, art galleries, coffee shops and restaurants across the US, Europe and Australia. (For a map of Art-o-Mat machine locations, go to www.artomat.org). To find where we’ll be next, be sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram at #Artomat.Jax

The Artomat First Coast is currently located at Kismet Art Studios’ Baymeadows Road location in Jacksonville.

Things have a way of coming full circle…

My parents owned a cab company in upstate New York called Totem Taxi. When I was a child, my job was to fill the cigarette, soda and candy machines. I loved it! Lining up each candy or package of cigarettes was right up my organizing alley.

Fast forward 45 years and a trip to the North Carolina Museum of Art where I stumbled across a revamped cigarette machine that sold art in little boxes for the very affordable price of $5. I was hooked! I spent every $5 bill I had in my purse on a variety of miniature artistic creations.

I joined the Art-o-Mat artists in the fall of 2018 with several different series of works: little ceramic houses, ceramic Christmas tree ornaments, ceramic necklaces, painted blocks, and mixed media art. The best part is that now I’m filling cigarette machines with my Joyful Kismet art instead of unhealthy cigarettes.

Now, as a host of my own Art-o-mat machine, my story has come full circle.

You can be an Art-o-mat artist, too!
